Greetings, from beautiful Bay County, Florida! I’m Dr. Todd Mitchell and I’m the RAM proud principal of Rutherford High School. I have been teaching or leading schools since 2009 when my family and I moved to the Emerald Coast. I am honored to serve as your educational leader because Rutherford is a special and unique place. Here we seek to cultivate a supportive learning environment through our ambitious instruction, effective leadership, and collaborative teaching. We look to involve our families in everything our students achieve. We serve students in grades 6 through 12 and we are committed to our mission of preparing students to be productive, inquiring citizens in an ever-changing world.
Rutherford offers a variety of learning pathways and we encourage academic excellence through the pursuit of Career & Technical Education (CTE), Advanced Placement (AP), Dual-Enrolled (DE), and Honors Level coursework. Moreover, Rutherford is home to Bay County’s only International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which seeks to build students’ inquiry mindset while preparing them to be college-ready, global difference makers. Our newly minted IB Career Program (CP) equips students with future-ready skills and prepares them to pursue their university aspirations and follow their chosen career pathway. Middle and High School students at Rutherford may pursue training through the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), Digital Design and Technology, our Construction & Welding Academy, Agriscience, or our Culinary Department. Each of these CTE pathways can also be connected to our IB Career Program and leverage even more successful opportunities for students. Finally, we want to affect change in the whole student experience by providing extra and co-curricular activities to include theater, choir, band, service clubs and student organizations, and a plethora of locally & state competitive athletic opportunities.

To this end, all Rutherford staff, in cooperation with parents and community, will challenge all students to act with honesty and integrity as they develop a natural curiosity for the world around them and become productive, responsible, and accountable members of society in pursuit of excellence.
