International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs at Rutherford High School aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are highly motivated to succeed. The ideal profile of an IB student is that of a critical and compassionate thinker, an informed participant in local and world affairs, who values the shared humanity that binds all people together, who strives to build a better world while respecting the variety of cultures and attitudes that makes for the richness of life.

Rutherford High School is honored to offer two outstanding International Baccalaureate Programs for the students of Bay County.
We are delighted to celebrate our 30th year of IB Diploma graduates with the Class of 2024!  And we are very pleased to announce the authorization of our IB Career Program beginning in the fall of 2023!

The IB Diploma Program is designed to offer the highest college preparatory curriculum standards available to students around the globe.  It is a two-year program for 11th and 12th-grade students, encompassing not only university level academics, but the growth of the whole student---through their extracurricular activities, leadership, and service to others.

Students who choose to pursue the full IB Diploma will complete courses in English, Foreign Language, History, Science, Mathematics, Theory of Knowledge, and a chosen elective.  In addition to academic research in every subject area, students will also complete an Extended Essay research paper in a subject area of their own interest, working closely with a faculty advisor.
IB Diploma Candidates may earn 30+ hours of college credit. IB Diploma recipients receive automatic qualification for the Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholarship, as well as admission preference to the most prestigious colleges and universities worldwide.

Our IB Career Program is designed to offer students maximum choice and flexibility in their high school pathway, combining two or more IB Academic classes, a self-selected Career Related Study, and a central Personal and Professional Skills course.  This highly individualized IB Program offers students an outstanding foundation of skills in preparation for whatever post-secondary paths they may choose to pursue---college, career and technical training, or directly into the workforce.
If you have any questions or would like more information on either of the Rutherford IB Programs, please contact the IB Coordinator.
